The State homes program is the largest provider of long-term care for our Nation's veterans with more than 162 State homes across all 50 states and Puerto Rico, totaling over 30,000 beds. They provide skilled nursing care, domiciliary care, and adult day health care to both veterans and non-veterans. Each State home is owned, operated, and managed by each State's government. After certification, VA reviews each State home annually to ensure continued compliance with VA's requirements and standards.

There is generally no expectation that a nursing home patient’s medical condition will sufficiently improve to enable them to return home or live independently. Riverside Convalescent Center - Smithfield located in Smithfield, VA, in Isle Of Wight County, offers a variety of therapies and care services to help you regain your independence. This 156 bed facility opened on December 3, 1996 and is located on a 20 acre pecan orchard adjacent to Bayou DeSaird in the northern area of Monroe, Louisiana. The facility provides complete medical care including an 10 bed Medicare Skilled Nursing Unit, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, a Specialty Alzheimer/Dementia Care Unit, and transportation services for medical appointments. Our Recreaction Department schedules numerous daily, in-facility activities as well as several monthly, off-site activities. A nursing home is for patients needing daily medical care to live and is generally a continuing need. A nursing home is usually a permanent solution to a decrease in wellbeing.
Add to this quotient the amount based on the CMS payment schedule for physician services. The resulting sum is the per diem baseline rate for the State home.
